I was introduced to Amateur Radio by a good freind of mine, Michael Tang, KC5WOW, who was at the time, president of Dunbar Amateur Radio Club (the only licensed secondary school in Arkansas). The next fall, my freshman year and my last at Dunbar, I joined the Amateur Radio Club, I was later elected president and was one of the first to complete my licensing requirements. Eric Henderson, KE5H, my science teacher at the time, was "in charge" of the Amateur Radio Club and tought those of us who were actively pursuing a license. E.J. Dixon, N5QH, also helped a great deal. On March 23rd, I passed my General theory test. I have yet to attempt a code test. I served on the Coordinating Committee for the 1998 Little Rock HamFest. This year I am serving again and coordinating youth activities. If you have any ideas on how to encourage young people to start in amateur radio, email me.
